Ulex

Ulex is an open-source legal operating system for resolving disputes in accordance with the Legal Principle.

Description

It is one example of developing legal frameworks in accordance with the Legal Principle.

Version 1.2. of Ulex assembles established legal standards (including ALI Restatements, Uniform Commercial Codes, and model procedural rules) into a single coherent ruleset.

The project was lead by Tom W Bell. The system is based on voluntary adoption and arbitration by consent.

Ulex is consistent with the Legal Principle and applies to all parties without dependence on a centralized legislature.

Ulex does not replace the Legal Principle or the Moral Principle. It is one example of how legal frameworks can be structured to safeguard self-sovereignty.

Ulex and the Legal Principle

  • Dispute resolution by a panel of three judges chosen by the parties.

  • Judges must decide either for a party’s proposed remedy or for dismissal. A judge cannot create a third outcome.

  • The losing party pays the winning party’s legal costs, at least to a reasonable amount.

  • A catchall rule brings all disputes into a “common practice”, including respect for human dignity (consistent with the Moral Principle).

  • Optional modules exist for criminal law and the development of sovereign institutions.
