Montelibero operates as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) using decentralized finance (DeFi). This means the project runs like a fund but without an executive team or directors. This fund is used to finance various efforts in the free city.
In fact, Montelibero is the largest valued DeFi DAO in Europe. Such a structure ensures governance and public decision-making is always based on consent, which aligns with Live and Let Live’s Legal Principle. In addition, DAOs provide transparency on how public decisions are made, reducing the risk of particular forms of aggressing such as fraud and compromising due process.
Montelibero’s primary physical hub is on the Adriatic coast in Montenegro with approximately 30 residents.
