Overview
- During the enlightenment of 18th century, the authority of the church was challenged by the newly invented printing press.
- Translated copies of the Bible were widely disseminated such that ordinary people could now have direct access to their spiritual authority, rather than via the church.
- Today, the internet is having a similar effect that the printing press had then, except now it is not just the spiritual aspect of our lives that we control, but increasingly we’re seeing that there is no valid reason for our lives to be controlled by others we’ve never met. Instead, governance can be largely decentralized and we can learn to act according to our own wisdom; freedom with response-ability.
