Summary
Live the message. Demonstrate:
Civility - listen; take an interest, validate (donât judge) and build trust. Exercise patience in face of rudeness.
- âI totally understand your concern about equality, particularly given how shocking the disparities are todayâ
Tolerance - assume the best intentions. Many have never heard of these ideas.
Open mindedness - find common ground.
Voluntary kindness - emphasize the vision of one human family.
Aim for agreement on the Principles, not the facts. âDo you mind being aggressed against?â
Share the positive vision: The 3L Movement is about a love of freedom and friendship. âAre you the kind of person that stands up for whatâs right?â
Emphasise the value of the community: âWould you want to be part of a global community that helps each other and represents the best of humanity from all walks of life? Do you want to belong among those that stand together in moral courage for a vision of enjoying shared freedom and peace?â
Emphasise hope and agency: âworld peace is a long journey that starts with a single - weâve made the practical steps to get involved easyâ. This is something to live for!
Repetition is key - almost no one âgets itâ on first listen.
Exclude personal opinions/preferences - 3L is a wide tent. No need to put others off unnecessarily.
Remember: roughly one third of people will simply disagree, anotherh third wonât care, and the remaining third will be receptive. 3L is about enjoying our gift of freedom while respecting the free will of others - maintain tranquility!
Assuming the best intentions
Most people have never considered that we live in a world that legally permits aggression. Most people want a better world for all and genuinely believe that some degree of coercion is a necessary evil to get us there. They have not yet considered that this coercion is the root of the problem.
We should assume that those we communicate with are good, kind-hearted/loving people. The following sayings summarize the error in aggressing to achieve their worthy goals:
- âTwo wrongs donât make a rightâ
- âRoad to hell is paved with good intentionsâ
If indeed the path to hell is paved with naive good intentions, the path to peace is paved with two practical principles of the 3L Philosophy.
These ideas are new to most people
It is understandable to reject the Legal Principle without being fully informed of its meaning or having had a full opportunity to contemplate it. There are many essential points most people have likely never heard before.
The solution to every doubt is to ask:
âWhat do you think would happen next?ââŚ
âWhat do you think would happen next?ââŚ
- âWhat do you think would happen next?ââŚ
Eventually, a peaceful alternative is found existing coercive way of âsolvingâ the problem.
Emphasis on the universality, and grounding in morality
We care about our fellow human beings and voluntarily seek to assist those in need.
There are many ways to express the 3L Philosophy beyond the words âlive and let liveâ:
- Aloha;
- The golden rule;
- Be tolerant of others;
- We are all created equal;
- You do you, and Iâll do me;
- Keep your hands to yourself;
- Youâre in charge of you, and Iâm in charge of me;
- Do unto others as you would have others do unto you, and
- Teach them correct principles but let them govern themselves.
With confidence
There is no reason to be timid in advocating we treat each other excellently and end the cycle of aggressing.
The same formula works even when learning about the facts of a situation for the first time.
Disagreement stems from support for aggressing against others.
- We can simply remind them to admit they themselves prefer not to be aggressed against.
For complex issues, we let the local communities decide - there may be no optimal solutions to some difficult questions.
- Allowing the smallest local communities to act as experimental laboratories in these areas is preferable whenever possible.
- The 3L Movement does not promise utopia, only that it’s better than what we have now for anyone valuing freedom, peace and prosperity.
All ideologies and political positions can be reduced into two groups:
Those advocating aggressing,
Those not advocating for aggressing.
- Ideologies requiring aggressing are dangerous. Ideologies of peace are not.
When asked: âWhat does 3L do?â
Reframe: âThere is no centralized plan for world peace. It starts with a philosophy of how we live.â
Invitation: â3L is about choosing freedom with responsibility, a way of thinking anyone can adopt.â
Shared ownership: âOnce we adopt this frame of mind, the âhowâ becomes natural.
Future visioning: âThe movement grows into real world peace when enough of us live the philosophy first. Itâs like any network - there will eventually be more benefits of being part of it than fighting it. It starts to have a gravitational power to make real legal changes; a peaceful evolution to a peaceful era.â
Bring them in:
- âdo you want to live in a peaceful world? Where aggressing is outlawed and voluntary kindness is the culture?
- Do you want to live in a world where we all of us equally adhere to this law that we donât aggress against each other, applying to all individuals, groups, corporations and governments?
- Would you be willing to abandon aggressing as a means to achieve your desired goals?â
- If so, then the question is what will you do? Will you form a peace movement? Itâs a lot of work - why not just join ours? Start a local chapter to plant the seeds of change in your local community?â
When asked: âWhat can I do?â
- There is no one answer to that question.
- The spectrum ranges from dedicating huge amounts of money and time to simply joining the movement.
- Ideally you would become an Ambassador, which requires learning how the 3L Philosophy applies to the major topics and a commitment to being a leader that generally embodies the Aspirational Values.
- You don’t need to sacrifice anything. Come and meet incredible people, share ideas and enjoy the community. Be part of something amazing and historic.
- Eventually, 3L will have a large gravitational pull and change will happen naturally.
Begin with the end in mind
Our goal is peace on earth. Not just for humans but for all life.
Peace on earth requires two things:
3L is not extreme
- Most of us already want to live in a society where we are not aggressed against; where we can be free to live our lives how we choose. Therefore the 3L Philosophy is not extreme.
- The word radical comes from the Latin radix, meaning root or origin. The 3L Philosophy does identify the root of the dysfunction in society: our tolerance for certain groups to aggress against other people. All countries, democracies and autocracies alike, allow institutionalized aggressing. The âSocial Contractâ was not voluntarily entered into⌠we were born into a coercive system, with no break clause. Our tolerance for this systemic aggressing is what is causing both the existential threats, as well as the day-to-day challenges of making a living and being our authentic selves.
- The 3L Philosophy is for reasonable people, by reasonable people; all of us who do not resort to violence to get our way.
To Gen Z
- While we welcome all to the 3L Movement, Gen Z is a particular focus given that social change is most often energized by young adults
- We have a positive message to counteract the apathy that is too pervasive among Gen Z: You are an empowered creator of the world around you. None of the bad news about your generation being poorer, ecological collapse, etc. has to be true. We have the ability to co-create a very positive future. Simply get on board.
3L is âadjacent possibleâ
- Adjacent possible in this context means that our ability to manifest lasting peace on earth has never been easier. This is thanks, in large part, to technology. The internet allows for us to spread the Live and Let Live message far and wide, much like the printing press enabled the Enlightenment in the 17th century.
