Discussion

Overview

A society in which some individuals are permitted to aggress upon others means self-ownership is subject to violations.

Finding a place to live free

Currently, achieving a free society is inhibited by nation states that collectively cover all land on earth with coercive adherence to legal systems that do not respect the rights of individuals not to be aggressed against.

Some nations include institutions which allow for greater self-sovereingty than others. Switzerland and Liechtenstein are two examples. The prospective nation of Liberland is remarkably closely aligned with the Legal Principle.

There are various organizations such as the Free Cities Foundation which facilitates free societies on earth.

Priorities of a free society

To remain viable as a sustainably free community, a top priority for a free society should be finding mechanisms to voluntarily fund the essential services of policing, courts, and defense.

A free society, in which people are free to live in any non-aggressing way they choose, is likely to enjoy greater quality of life (safer, cleaner and more prosperous) than those communities that remain under coercive influences. That is because the only limit is aggressing; all other voluntary interactions, which are inherently win/win, can be pursued at will.

Envisioning a free world

Most communities would appear very similar to how they appear today. We would likely have police departments, courts, lawyers, judges, prosecutors, prisons, and an efficient military force to protect us from organized groups of people who would aggress.

When our laws are in harmony with peace, we should expect more overall peace. Increasing the peace in our world by abolishing anti-peace laws will pay huge financial dividends, especially considering how much wealth we currently waste preparing for and fighting wars, whether declared or undeclared.

Contrary to what some believe, governments do not create wealth; they forcefully shift existing resources from the owner to someone else.

We should deprive governments of the ability to have monopoly control of our monetary system.

The power of free choice (sometimes called the free market) to generate truly win/win solutions should never be underestimated. We shouldn’t let our own limited imagination impede the imagination of others.

The increased choices resulting from competition, compared to the one-size-fits-all approach of the government-run system, solved the problem and resulted in a better overall system for everyone.

It is unreasonable to expect anyone to predict what our most creative and collaborative people can accomplish to offer efficient and effective solutions to problems.
