- Appellate refers to the process of reviewing an official decision, usually in the context of a tribunal or court.
Appellate courts
- An appellate court is a higher court that reviews decisions made by another court. Appellate courts are necessary for due process (i.e. procedural fairness in dispute resolution).
- Appeltte court typically do not retry cases or consider new evidence. Instead, they determine whether the lower court applied the law correctly and conducted fair proceedings.
- Appellate courts play an important role in dispute resolution. They give people a chance to review an unfavorable or unfair court outcome.
