Council Assessment
Context for Ambassador candidates
- A delegation of the Live and Let Live Council assesses the candidate’s understanding of the 3L Movement and Philosophy. It is neither an interrogation nor an oral exam about current affairs or politics.
- There are no trick questions - the Council is interested to see you demonstrate your ability to convey the message civilly, effectively, and accurately.
- Candidates are recommended to treat the assessment as a discussion and as a chance for the Council members to get to know the candidate as a person.
Format of the 1-hour interview
3 open-ended questions - 13 minutes.
Robbie to start with three open-ended questions to allow the candidate to convey their understanding, as well as define areas of special interest to them:
- How would you describe Live and Let Live?
- Whatâs your understanding of the role of a Live and Let Live Ambassador, and what would you like from the role?
- Can you walk us through how Live and Let Live applies to a relevant topic you particularly care about?
Pop-corn style questions from the Council - 34 minutes.
Council members raise their hands for questions, asked in order of queue.
Check box: ask a follow-up question if the candidate hasnât yet demonstrated sufficient understandingâŚ
- That 3L is a community with one mandatory legal requirement: âdonât aggressâ and a **voluntary aspiration to treat each other excellently**?
- That we allow local communities to decide where reasonable minds disagree.
- The definition of âaggressingâ (if not memorized it, make sure to have this definition in front of you during the assessment)
- Of how 3L applies to a specific topic.
- The transition involves not abolishing tax overnight, lacking a centralized plan for peace, but acknowledging that a critical mass is needed.
Ideas for potential questions:
- How does 3L apply to a different topic, like racism/abortion/tax?
- What are some of the common objections to 3L, and would you answer them?
- How would you describe 3L in the simplest way possible?
- Why do we advise Ambassadors to keep their personal opinions separate from their communication of 3L?
- When competent adults involve themselves in gambling, prostitution, or drug use, do they breach the Legal Principle?
- Whatâs an example of a grey area or continuum where reasonable minds disagree on exactly how to interpret the Legal Principle?
- Describe the purpose of the Aspirational Values (AKA the Moral Principle)?
- Why do we say: â**Aim high. Fall short. Do well.â**
Councilâs private discussion and candidate debrief - 13 minutes.
- The candidate will be asked to leave the call and join again when invited via email from the Council.
